Music is just as therapeutic as it is entertaining.
With the many different genres though, you will have to be specific on which one you listen to when fighting stress.
For example, you cannot be stressed then expect to be relieved after listening to hard rock. You will need some slow and soft music which will create the right atmosphere for your brain to relax.
Soothing music comes in different forms.
You should choose which one to listen to depending on your preferences. Ranging from blues, RnB , soft rock to some sub-genres of reggae, the collection to choose from is wide.
An alternative is to listen to some soft instrumentals. You can find some which consist purely of piano sound. Some jazz music is also good for this.

Stress Busters To Clear Your Mind

Finding ways to slow down, reduce stress and relax are imperative to staying focused, productive, engaged, creative and healthy. During times of high stress I tend to work more, worry more, exercise less and put more effort into to achieving results which negatively impacts my health.
This in 2010 my first break after the Olympics wasnt until August. The traditional Christmas Holiday was cancelled to make up time that was being taken off to volunteer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics as an Anti-Doping Chaperone.
After the exciting stress of volunteering for a large international event, my grandmother passed away which added even more emotional stress, which was then compounded by hiring three staff and finally my first employee quit shortly after. I put a lot of effort into taking care of Lifemoves® current clients while building the client loads of Leah, Brielle and Nicola before being confident that these new team members of Lifemoves® could take care of the business while I took care of myself.
Positive or negative our bodies recognize stress the same way. These situations from December 2009 to August 2010 put me on high alert and nearly wore me out while draining my andrenals. Now I am recognizing when I am feeling a little overburdened earlier and learning to say NO while finding ways to relax. During the day I am bombarded with so many stimuli, from emails i, to music in the gym, to phone calls and the many decisions I have to make as a team leader and business owner.

Ten Minutes: Time With Family
Youve now devoted 17 minutes to grounding yourself, meaning you have 12 minutes left. Now is the time to enjoy quality time with family.
Set aside ten minutes for family, advises Forrest Talley, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist. Parents with young children will find this challenging in that they are busy getting them into their school clothes, organizing school lunch bags, etc. But for those with teens, or empty nesters, this can be a great time to connect before the business and stress of the day take on a momentum of their own.
If you have pets, make them a part of this time.
The bond between owners and their pets is often very strong, and a source of significant happiness, says Talley. Including a little quality time in the morning insures this bond is not neglected.
What to do with those two extra minutes? You shouldnt have a problem using them now that you can get your phone back.
Let Go Of Negative Thoughts
It can be difficult to not dwell on the little things, let alone the big ones, but all that negative thinking isnt good for you. According to University of Wisconsin Health, negative thoughts can be a sign of depression or can make existing depression worse. To help, take time to notice your thoughts and replace negative ones with more positive, encouraging thinking. Its also beneficial to stop thinking in terms of should. Instead have goals, but dont base your self-worth on meeting them and try to find ways to boost your happiness hormones.

Engage In Expressive Writing
If your mind is filled with stressful feelings, it may be helpful to give in to the thoughts and express them through writing. Journaling allows you to delve deeper into the topics that plague your thoughts.
Fully experiencing and examining your emotions can help you brainstorm solutions and give you different ways of looking at your problems .
When you first begin, set a time limit so you dont get stuck in rumination. Multiple studies have found that 20 minutes is an effective amount of time for positive mental and emotional change without sliding into rumination.
Keep A Gratitude Journal
Writing down three or four things for which youre thankful is a simple exercise with massive, research-backed benefits. In addition to reducing stress and reframing your vantage point, it makes you happier and helps to clear your mind by providing affirmations to reflect back upon when stresses occur. Gratitude is not something that spontaneously or accidentally occurs, says Dr. Bart Wolbers. By focusing on whats good, you almost immediately lower your blood pressure and heart rate. A little perspective goes a long way.

First Two Minutes: Positive Thoughts And No Phone
Many of us use our phones as our alarms. Thats fine so long as you can resist the urge to read any missed messages or emails once youre awake. If not, get an old-school alarm and keep your phone elsewhere. Its critical that youre not distracted at all during this routine.
That split second when you wake up counts the most, because right then and there you can set the tone of your new day for how you want it to be, says Jacqueline Pirtle, an energy healer, mindfulness-happiness coach, and author of 365 Days of Happiness: Because happiness is a piece of cake. Your first thought should be something like, this will be and is already the best day ever, or I am healthy, abundant, successful and happy, or life loves me, and so on.
These thoughts may not come automatically to you in the morning, so try rehearsing them while falling asleep the night before.
In a world that tends to highlight the negative, starting your day off on a positive note can have positive effects on your mood.
Next, implement some mindfulness techniques to clear your mind. This can be in the form of meditation, prayer or affirmations of gratitude.
I recommend that all my patients engage in some sort of meditation or prayer first thing in the morning, says Dr. Nicole Bernard Washington, a board certified psychiatrist and the chief medical officer at Elocin Psychiatric Services. The benefit is to clear your thoughts and allow you to start the day with a clear mind.

Have positive beliefs and hopes in your mind, that everything will be alright. In this way, you can clear your mind and reduce stress.

Ways To Clear Your Mind With Meditation

Meditation is a practice that has been proven through research to help you clear your mind, reduce rumination, sleep better, and reduce anxiety and stress.
Set aside ten to fifteen minutes a day to practice a short mind-clearing exercise with meditation.
The steps are simple, but you will need to practice consistently to train your brain to calm down so you can enjoy the inner peace meditation affords.
Here are the steps for a basic meditation practice:
Step 1: Set a timer for ten or fifteen minutes. Sit in a chair or on a cushion on the floor with your hands resting gently in your lap. Close your eyes and take a deep, cleansing breath.
Step 2: Start to notice each breath, both the inhalation and exhalation. Follow the breath as it enters your body and leaves your body. Try to focus your full attention on your breathing.
Step 3: When your mind wanders , gently redirect your attention to your breathing. Do this as many times as necessary during your meditation time.
Step 4: When your mind wanders, dont judge yourself or the intrusive thoughts. Simply notice them, and then return to your breathing.
Step 5: When the timer goes off, take one final deep breath and return to your day.
The more you practice meditation, the easier it becomes to find that clear space in your mind that is calm and peaceful. And the effects of your efforts will last even after youve completed meditating.
Become aware of the movement of your joints and the swing of your legs as you walk.

Make Eye Contact With Others
When youre feeling stressed and overwhelmed by the number of tasks swirling around your mind, take a deep breath, look in your someones eyes, and breathe out. Even a small moment of connection can help when everyones rushing around, says Dr. Clay Drinko. Why? Taking a moment to look at your spouse, kids, or friends to make strong, connected eye contact reminds you why youre working so hard. Eye contact is also a good way to remind yourself youre in a physical space, surrounded by people you can talk it out to. It helps moor your thoughts on whats in front of you, not whats next to do.
Learn To Live In The Moment
One of the best ways to clear your mind is to simply focus on the task at hand. Not only is living in the present moment useful for clearing your mind, but it leads to a higher quality of life as well.
Using an iPhone application called Track Your Happiness, Harvard psychologists found that daydreaming is associated with lower levels of happiness.
The study periodically polled more than 2000 adults who reported what they were doing, whether their minds were wandering and how happy they were.
About half the time, the participants were thinking about something other than the task at hand.
According to the study, the ability to think about what is not happening is a cognitive achievement that comes at an emotional cost.
The study found that people who daydreamed less and were more likely to focus on the task they were doing in the present moment were more likely to be happy.
The question is, how can you train your brain to live more in the present moment so you can more effectively clear your mind?
According to neuroscientist David Rock, taking small moments throughout the day to focus on your senses and youll direct experience network in your brain compared to your default brain network.
This is why I believe micro-meditations can be effective.
The key here is to focus on your breath for 1-3 minutes every hour throughout the day.
Its best to do equal breathing which is inhaling for 4 seconds through your and nose and then exhaling for 4 seconds .

Are You Having A Crazy Distracting Day Here Is A 15
Some days just get out of hand. The workload is heavy, and still the emails and calls flood in. The pace can seem frenetic, and the constant interruptions not only disrupt your actions but your thought process as well. You move so fast you feel unproductive and sloppy. By the end of the day, you feel stressed and edgy. Worse, you can’t shut down your brain because you feel you might have missed something important.
It doesn’t have to escalate to the point at which you head home to snap at your kids and yell at your dog. There are simple ways to gain control during the most hectic and frantic of days. Below is a simple, 15-minute regimen from my friend and writing coach Carolyn Roark, Ph.D., who taught college students for years and knows a little about creating calm amid a world of chaos.
The next time the world is spinning you in all directions, go find a quiet place for 15 minutes and use this exercise to recenter yourself in the universe.
5 minutes of physical activity
Even though you may already have your blood pumping from running around the office, Roark suggests that heading outside and running or fast walking around the building will give you a break from the immediate chaos. Separation from the action will help your mind let go of the immediacy of issues. The release of endorphins will lift your mood and begin to break the stress.
4 minutes of gratitude
3 minutes of meditation
2 minutes of silence
1 minute of deep breathing
Namaste.
