Tip #3 Colour Code The Plan
This is the fun bit!
From Tip #2 you will have created a rough plan of where you want things to be moved to on move-in day if possible. Now you need to make that a reality.
I find that colour coding can really help to do this quickly and easily.
I use sticky dots on my floor plan of the new house and colour code each room a different colour.
Then I go round the house and colour code the items I want to move into each of the rooms.
TIP Either colour code the actual item if someone else are packing for you or if you are packing yourself then you can colour code the packaging only.
TIP Give the removals company a copy of your colour coded floor plan of the new house so that they can easily see what you want in which room. This will save so much time as you dont have to stand by the front door telling them where to put each item as they bring them in you can be getting on with other things.
TIP You could also stick a coloured piece of paper on the door of each room in the new house to make it even easier to move things in
TIP Large items of furniture can be tagged in the same way, making it less likely that items will be moved into the wrong room leaving you with less to move by yourself.
TIP Colour code both the side and the top of each box so that when they are stacked you are able to see what room they are for easily.
Tip : Organising The Essentials
Before the move, it is crucial to have the essentials in order, such as enrolling in school or landing a new job if you are undergoing a major relocation. These details need to be sorted out and settled well in advance of your move so that everything else will run smoothly. The last thing you want is a last-minute hiccup which threatens to throw your plans into jeopardy.
Tips On How To Make Moving Less Stressful
Move enough, and you start to notice a familiar pattern to the process. There are the initial days of excitement, when youre gathering packing supplies and moving boxes and psyching yourself up for a couple days of hard work. Then the hard work starts, and you realize that everything you thought would take ten minutes is actually going to take thirty, and everything you thought would take an hour is actually going to take five.
Finally, moving day arrives, a long, sweaty day of heavy lifting and the occasional last minute hiccup. When all is said and done, you sit back in your new home and relax for a second before you look around at your boxes and realize just how much is left to be done. Meanwhile, life jobs, kids, pets, etc. continues to require your attention, and the internet company just said they wont be able to get your service set up for another week.
Is it any wonder that so many people find moving to be stressful?
I dont mean to paint a doom and gloom picture of moving its really not so bad, and it always works out well in the end. But its a fact of life that with moving comes stress, and its better to know what to expect than to let it bring you down. These 7 tips on how to make moving less stressful are a good place to start.

Hire The Movers And Set A Date Asap
Far too often, there is a temptation to wait until the last possible minute before making those crucial arrangements with the moving company. While this may seem to make sense at the time , its not a good idea at all.
Some of the better moving companies might be booked up for weeks or even months in advance, so dont play the last minute game. If so, you might be forced to hire a substandard company that wont do the job as required. lower-quality moving companies are also more likely to break fragile items, and also more likely to rob you. Just remember this: You are trusting this company with everything you own.
Clean And Organize Your Home First

When you are about to start moving, the first thing to do is clean and organize your home. Some people might be scratching their heads here, wondering why on earth you should bother with cleaning a place before you move? The answer is simple: To make sure you dont miss anything! Besides that, it also makes everything easier.
A cluttered home presents several problems in this situation. First of all, it will be much harder for you to organize your belongings properly. This will lead to more delay as you unpack the boxes and try to make sense of a random pile.
When you move out, you probably wont be able to come back. Anything left behind after the final moving date becomes the property of your former landlord. Thus, it is a good idea to get everything nice and sorted to make sure that all the essentials leave with you.

Have All Your Moving Equipment On Hand
Make sure you have more than enough boxes, tape, scissors and markers. Some packing supply stores will happily buy back unused boxes so it doesnt matter if you buy too many. If you run out of boxes or tape youll have to stop what youre doing to re-stock which is a huge waste of time on an already busy day. Its better to over-buy than under-buy when it comes to packing supplies.

Move On A Less Popular Day
Of course, moving costs money, which can be stressful. But if you move on a less popular moving day, itll save you both money and stress. If you have a flexible schedule, play around with potential moving dates and try to find the cheapest day to make an appointment, Basher says. Moving companies are busiest on weekends, so if you can skip Saturday and schedule your move for a weekday, youll be looking at a decent discount and avoid the craziness. He also advises to schedule your movers ASAP, approximately six weeks in advance.
Ways To Make Moving Day Stress Free
Moving day is one of the most stressful times for anybody. Having to pack up your entire life and relocate can be scary. Follow our moving checklist and moving tips to ensure you have a stress-free move.
1.Create a Moving Map
The first and most important thing you can do is create a moving map. This is an overarching timeline of your move, with each element specifically noted and scheduled. For example, your moving map may list Return Cable Boxes one week before your move. Obviously, youll want to follow your schedule as closely as possible.
The process of creating a moving map can seem overwhelming there are so many moving parts happening in tandem that its natural to feel a little stressed. However, by writing everything out in a clear, easy to read and understand way, youll be able to make sure that everything is taken care of and, in the long run, your move will be much easier because of it.
2. Call Your Utilities
As soon as you know youre moving, youll want to get in contact with all of your utilities. Let your water, heat, electric, cable, and internet companies know that youll be moving and give them your moving date.
This ensures you wont be stuck paying for an extra months worth of utilities you wont be using. Its a quick and easy couple of phone calls to make, but it can easily be forgotten as you get further along the moving process. Thats why it is a good idea to call your utilities sooner rather than later.
3. Make Checklists for Each Room

Plan For Your House Move Early
One of the top tips for a stress-free move is organisation. You will then be able to check that you remain on schedule to avoid the need for urgent last minute activity.
Packing Do Not Under Estimate It:
You may think packing and unpacking will not take you too long perhaps because you dont have a lot of stuff, but believe us, packing will always take more time than you expect. It is so because packing is not just a physical activity, it requires a lot of mental labor to decide what you need to keep and what you should discard as you stressfully try to gauge how valuable an item is, be it in terms of money or emotional value. Try and begin the packing process weeks before your final moving day to save time and stress.

Toss That Old Junk In The Trash
Everyone has old junk laying around the house that they dont use. Unless this junk has some kind of sentimental or collecting value, there is simply no sense in bringing it along. You might as well throw it away or give it to someone.
The benefit for you is that every item thrown away or given away is an item that wont have to be moved. Thus, it frees up truck space and time. Moving can be a great opportunity to trim away the excess possessions that you dont really need. If you are giving away something that has value, we would recommend gifting it to your new neighbors so that you can establish good relations from the start.

Plan Out Your Move Ahead Of Time
Like anything in life, when it comes to moving, it helps to have a plan in place. Having a plan definitely makes moving less stressful, emotionally and financially, Lee says. For instance, if you can contact your new building in advance and reserve the service elevator, call/email them now instead of waiting until two days before your move-in date. Basically, the more issues you can foresee and take care of in advance, the better.
Basher agrees. Plan ahead dont start packing on moving day and dont start cleaning on moving day, he says. The only thing you should be doing on moving day is moving. He says this means physically moving furnishings and boxes from one place to the other. That task is demanding enough, so do not complicate it with packing, wrapping, and disassembling furniture, Basher says.
