You Spend Too Much Time On Social Media
While the use of social media relates to screen time, it in and of itself carries a slew of adverse effects on ones mental health and stress levels. Remember, stress is a triggered response, and social media has been found to induce stress in different ways.
Social media causes us to compare. Whether consciously or subconsciously, the inundation of images of people who look better, sound better, or seem better than how you perceive yourself causes us incredible anxiety and feelings of low self-esteem. Social media gives you images of peoples happiest and most put-together moments, which can lead to unrealistic expectations of our own lives, which ultimately causes undue stress.
One of the darker sides of social media is that it is highly addicting. Social media has been proven to be both psychologically and physically addicting. Like any addiction, when you are without the source, your body and brain enter withdrawal symptoms. Being removed from social media, if you are addicted, can cause you to experience feelings of stress and anxiety.
In a strange twist, the act of trying to stop using social media as often and not being able to is another direct cause of stress. Many people attempt to limit or stop using social media to reduce stress, only to find that they are more stressed than before. This is a red flag that you are addicted to social media and should consult with your physician.
Youre Too Busy To Cope
Overscheduling yourself with activities and tasks has become commonplace as of late. Almost everyone you talk to shares this notion of being busy. Its slowly becoming a characteristic of modern culture.
However, staying busy is also a coping mechanism for many people, and they are generally unaware of how they are using it. If you use your business as a coping mechanism, you are avoiding many underlying causes and triggers for your stress. By masking them with busyness, you will always feel as though you are stressed for no reason.
If you find it hard to slow down, are overly social, have a cluttered calendar, and people are often pointing out how busy you are, you may be making yourself busy to avoid underlying emotional stressors.
Chronic busyness also leaves you with little to no downtime. Your mind and body require recharging, just like any battery does. Being always on the go increases the levels of stress hormones in your body. It is essential to make time for yourself to be present with the people and things around you.
Mindfulness and being present daily will lead to feeling more grounded and involved in your life and can be beneficial to stress reduction.
How Much Stress Is Too Much
Because of the widespread damage stress can cause, its important to know your own limit. But just how much stress is too much differs from person to person. Some people seem to be able to roll with lifes punches, while others tend to crumble in the face of small obstacles or frustrations. Some people even thrive on the excitement of a high-stress lifestyle.
Factors that influence your stress tolerance level include:
Your support network. A strong network of supportive friends and family members is an enormous buffer against stress. When you have people you can count on, lifes pressures dont seem as overwhelming. On the flip side, the lonelier and more isolated you are, the greater your risk of succumbing to stress.
Your sense of control. If you have confidence in yourself and your ability to influence events and persevere through challenges, its easier to take stress in stride. On the other hand, if you believe that you have little control over your lifethat youre at the mercy of your environment and circumstancesstress is more likely to knock you off course.
Your attitude and outlook. The way you look at life and its inevitable challenges makes a huge difference in your ability to handle stress. If youre generally hopeful and optimistic, youll be less vulnerable. Stress-hardy people tend to embrace challenges, have a stronger sense of humor, believe in a higher purpose, and accept change as an inevitable part of life.

Staying Busy Is Your Antidepressant
Many people are either afraid or unwilling to address the true causes of their suffering and unhappiness.
This is partly because its not always clear. Depression, for instance, has many partial and interactive causes, from genetic vulnerabilities and inflammatory autoimmune responses to ruminative thinking styles and social stressors. So it can be understandably hard to completely understand all the causes and contributors to your suffering.
But for many of us, despite this complexity, there are at least some reasonably clear causes of unhappiness that we could work to improve:

- Most people with low self-esteem and self-worth issues would benefit from working to improve their habits of negative self-talk.

Is It Stress Or Anxiety
Life can be stressfulyou may feel stressed about performance at school, traumatic events , or a life change. Everyone feels stress from time to time.
What is stress? Stress is the physical or mental response to an external cause, such as having a lot of homework or having an illness. A stressor may be a one-time or short-term occurrence, or it can happen repeatedly over a long time.
What is anxiety? Anxiety is your body’s reaction to stress and can occur even if there is no current threat.
If that anxiety doesnt go away and begins to interfere with your life, it could affect your health. You could experience problems with sleeping, or with your immune, digestive, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems. Your Environment Is Stressful
The environment you keep around you can be a source of stress or peace. Much like device screens, a cluttered space causes your brain to constantly be working in overdrive. Your brain needs to process and identify all of the stuff you see as you look around your space. This can be an extreme source of stress for some people because their mind just isnt getting enough downtime.
Outside of personal living space, your environment includes where you live or where you work. For example, living in a rough neighborhood is always stressful. You can never be entirely sure of what youre going to find when you open your front door. It may be noisy, there may be gunshots, people yelling and arguing, and all different kinds of negativity.
Maybe its a person you live with causing you regular stress. They may not be doing what theyre supposed to, not pulling their weight around the house, or just being an unpleasant person to be around.
Being around difficult people can raise your stress levels, even if they are someone you love. For example, a caretaker may love the person theyre taking care of dearly, but being responsible for a loved ones well-being is a stressful thing to do.

How To Handle Sleepiness When Youre Stressed
First and foremost, if youre unsure whether your sleepiness is normal, you should get it checked out by a doctor.
Routine blood tests collected at a doctors visit are very important if you are experiencing chronic symptoms of insomnia, Conroy said. Abnormal levels of hormones, like thyroid-stimulating hormone, can affect how we feel during our waking hours.
Conroy also said to pay attention to your diet and fitness regimen. Skipping workouts and loading up on high-sugar or high-carb meals may make you sleepy or lead to an energy crash.
Make sure you are drinking enough water, and have a regular exercise routine, Conroy said.
You can also eliminate fatigue when youre stressed by pacing your activities during your waking hours.
Dont overdo it or underdo it, Conroy said. Engage in some form of relaxation, and paying attention to avoid unhelpful thought patterns. Thinking, Im never going to finish this, or, I am way too busy to take time out for myself is going to keep you in the same, tired cycle.
Prather said that you should make sure to carve out some me time no matter how many deadlines you have, or how big the project.
Stressors can feel all-consuming, but they dont have to be, Prather said. Scheduling things that you enjoy, like yoga or getting out in nature, can be really revitalizing and stress-reducing.
Can Happy Events Cause Stress
Some of these situations are often thought of as happy events. For example, you might feel expected to be happy or excited about getting married or having a baby.
But these events can bring big changes, and you might experience new or unusual demands. So they can still feel very stressful. This can be difficult to deal with, especially if you also feel pressure to be positive.
I’ve never been more stressed in my life than the 6 months leading up to my wedding… everyone kept asking me if I was happy and expecting me to be excited all the time, but I just couldn’t feel it. I ended up getting really ill.

Am I More Stressed Than I Realise
Many of the above responses to stress result in the same potentially dangerous issue: we don’t realise how stressed we are. If we detach, push people away, turn to substances, or deflect our stress with some other short-term fix, we won’t necessarily acknowledge how much stress we are under. We may manage to convince ourselves, on the conscious level at least, that we aren’t in fact stressed at all. In these cases, we may stay in unhealthy relationships, or cut people off who are actually really important to us we might continue to abuse substances or become progressively more angry and eventually depressed. In our society, being busy is sometimes seen as something of a badge of honour, and stress is seen as part and parcel. Being stressed might become comforting on some level, as we begin to associate it with being successful, with working hard for our goals and with being someone who manages to ‘do it all’.
Not facing up to how stressed we are means we aren’t likely to do anything about it. Chronic stress can result, and in turn can have serious health consequences, both physical and mental. Though we can, by various means, block out mental processes and thoughts that we don’t want to – or aren’t ready to – listen to, our body has ways that it will let us know that we are dealing with unhealthy levels of stress.

Stress Is Closely Related To Worry So Worry Less
So how do we worry less? Obviously easier said than done but the first step is to distinguish between worries that require your attention and worries that are unnecessary.
The following questions can help you clarify this:
Can I do something about this problem?
Is this something I always worry about, but nothing ever happens?
Is this something that has a solution?
Will my worrying make this situation better or worse or have no effect at all?
If there is something you can do about the problem, take action or consciously choose not to take action.
People often delay or avoid taking action or making decisions because they are worried about making a mistake.
If the situation is out of your control and there is nothing you can do, worrying does not make the situation better!
Tell yourself that your worries are not helpful and let them go. Again , I know this is easier said than done, but it can improve with practice.
It can help to challenge your thoughts about the worry and ask yourself:
Wheres the evidence for that? or
What would be so bad about that? or
Is this problem so important that I should spend all my time thinking about it?

Since Im sensitive to horror, violence, and gore, I miss out on movies and TV shows. Everyone comes to our house to watch Game of Thrones, but I cant watch, even though I want to. I cant watch Criminal Minds even though I love the dynamics of the FBI team its often too gory or scary for me. Many people tell me to get over it as though I control how scared or upset I get. After many years of being peer-pressured, Ive realized that when people leave the movies, theyre not haunted by what theyve seen, like I am.

Concerns About Friends Bullies And More
Sometimes, kids are anxious or worried about the upcoming school year because of experiences with bullies. For many kids, this time away from school was a welcome reprieve from mean behavior and cutting remarks. So, as the new school year approaches, they may begin to worry that they will have to go through the same experiences again.
Kids also might be stressed about appearance-related issues. Children from underserved communities and/or those living in poverty may worry about not having the right clothes or supplies. I have found that its often important to figure out what is causing my stress in the first place.
Of course, sometimes stress is caused by serious issues associated with trauma, depression, etc. but often it has a lot to do with something in our work life that can be quite easily changed.
Take a look:
1. We get too much information and phone time
Research is now showing that smartphones might be having a bigger effect on our brain than first thought.
I deleted Facebook from my phone because I found myself constantly needing to check it, just because I was bored. It as almost like an addiction and, if I didnt get my fix, I started to feel stressed.
Studies are also telling us that our brain is not designed to take in as much information as we get from our computers and phones every day. It seems to be having a really negative effect on a lot of people.
I highly recommend that everyone reads this wonderful speech given to the graduates of West Point Military Academy a few years ago by William Deresiewicz. It is called Solitude and Leadership and talks about how we all need to stop marinating in the opinions of other on social media and learn to think for ourselves and take control of our own lives.
2. We are lazy with records and taxes
Lets not underestimate how stressful it can be knowing that your taxes and financial records arent in order.
3. We dont exercise and so are overweight and under-socialized
4. We dont read, meditate or train our mind-vice enough
